It's officially called the "Sha-bob" A fusion between a Shag and a bob.

Haha... my mom said when I was little, my hair kind of naturally grew in this way and people would ask where she got my hair done. XD

I was big Archie comics fanatic and I remember them parodying the fact that everyone wanted that haircut.

lol girls all over school had this if it wasn't the posh spice 'bob' cut . Commonly British girls would also have two blonde streaks in the front , usually done by themselves haha.

First became popular in the 1970s, made a comeback in the 90s. Once dubbed, "America's First Haircut".

haha...I never even watched Friends until 2003, but I did ask for "the Rachel" in 2004.

Just a longer version of the David Cassidy shag from the 70's, or a grown out mullet.

I knew so many people with this! Now everyone is dying their black and look all emo I'll keep my curly locks!

I didn't think this style was copied from anyone. I thought everyone (celebs + everyday folks) wore this easy relaxed do b/c they were tired of a whole decade of crimping, perming and trying to make thier hair into "perfect" over-teased piles on top of their heads.

Glad to hear other people recognized its resemblance to a 70s shag. And the description of it as a combination of a shag and a bob is about right. I thought of it as an updated shag. It was a very nice hairstyle, though, really, very understated after the labor-intensive teasing and moussing and spiking of the 80s.

Farrah Fawcett's hair was nice, but I liked Jennifer Aniston's MUCH better!
kelsey - February 07, 2011 - Report this comment
i loved the Rachel haircut but read somewhere that Jennifer Aniston wasn't crazy about it, how funny that one of the biggest fashion trends of the decade wasn't even liked by the person who made it famous. jenn, loosen up, really it was great!

The hair is nice, it was just way overdone. Everyone had it, it was disgusting. And no, it doesn't look nearly as good or as flattering as the Farrah Fawcett hair do.
