What are your top ten favorite songs from the 90s?

By: Robert Newman and Ryan Kern
    • 10. The Wrong Way by Sublime
Is there a sublime song you haven't heard on the radio at one point or another? Yeah, that's what I thought.
    • 9. Mr. Jones by Counting Crows
One of the few white people with FUNK! It is like he set his soul to music.
    • 8. Spiders by System Of A Down
2nd hit off of their first album became more popular than than their 1st.
    • 7. Ode To My Family by The Cranberries
In my opinion better than Zombie. A haunting song of a haunted generation.
    • 6. Amish Paradise by Wierld Al Yankovic
Though it seems odd to list a parody, this song did truly hit it big. I can think of few people who did not find it humorous to say the least. Coolio wishes his song could have been as popular.
    • 5. No Rain by Blind Melon
Everyone knows this song. The Bumblebee girl is nearly a pop icon. They could been something truly great.
    • 4. Istanbul (Not Constantinople) by They Might Be Giants
"Even old New York was once New Amsterdam...." Need I say more?
    • 3. Where Is My Mind? by The Pixies
The teet that Nirvana suckled on.(THE alternative band). This song is unforgettable even if you only hear it once.
    • 2. Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana
For most people it's Smells Like Teen spirit, but honestly I find that Heart Shaped Box is my fav. (and far more intelligable).
    • 1. Struck A Nerve by Bad Religion
Off the album Recipe for Hate, perfect vocal melodies -a trademark of Bad Religion style. I highly recomend it (and any other Bad Religion albums).

Having finsihed, there are so many songs we wish we could list. We tried to achieve a balance between the music that affected our life and that which affected music as a whole (Sorry, Ice Ice Baby didn't make the cut. We think we did alright. - Bob/Ryan

    • 10. Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog
Chris Cornell's side project with Eddie Vedder on guest vocals. A masterpiece of the Seattle era.
    • 9. Outshined by Soundgarden
What list is complete without Chris Cornell?
    • 8. Good Pain by Live
Off of "Mental Jewelry," the band's first official album and second actual recording (the first being "Death of a Dictionary" under the name Public Affection, an album that also included this song). Ed Kowalczyk is a musical genius whose talents often pass unnoticed in favor of more "polished" trendy rock.
    • 7. Down In A Hole by Alice in Chains
Passionate and haunting. Jerry Cantrell's lyrics plus Layne Staley's vocals equal pure genius.
    • 6. Try Not To Breathe by R.E.M.
One of their more obscure songs, found on 1994's "Automatic for the People." A beautiful song about the feelings of obsolescence accompanying old age.
    • 5. Wicked Garden by Stone Temple Pilots
Off of their first album and a very successful single, this song proved early on that this band deserved to be legendary.
    • 4. Warm Machine by Bush
This song comes from "The Science of Things" and is, in my eyes, their best.
    • 3. H. by Tool
A brilliant, brilliant song. Maynard is one of the most brilliant lyricists in rock history.
    • 2. Hail, Hail by Pearl Jam
If you haven't heard this song, run (don't walk) to your nearest record store and pick up "No Code."
    • 1. Got Me Wrong by Alice in Chains
This song, originally off of the "Sap" EP, is probably one of their best. Alice in Chains was one of the most potent forces in 90's rock.

    11) "Still Remains" by Stone Temple Pilots. 12) "Rain King" by Counting Crows. 13) "Bound for the Floor" by Local H. 14) "Until I Fall Away" by Gin Blossoms.
