    By: Mark J
    • 10. Bullet With Butterfly Wings by The Smashing Pumpkins
With grunge in the throes of death, the Pumpkins fired a mercy shot to the forehead with this gutty rocker.
    • 9. Come Out And Play by The Offspring
The antithesis of Pearl Jam's 'Jeremy', The Offspring struck a chord with MTV and rock radio with a catchy, dragging, destorted romp.
    • 8. Closer by Nine Inch Nails
The darker side of the guitar rock revival came to a head with one unforgettable line and its conspiciously radio-edited 4-letter word.
    • 7. Mr. Jones by Counting Crows
Everybody loved them, and they were just about as funky as you can be.
    • 6. Plush by Stone Temple Pilots
STP never achieved the popularity of Plush again, but put themselves on the map while the movement was peaking.
    • 5. Basket Case by Green Day
The grunge/punk crossover didn't last long, but this enormously popular track may have been the 'fad' hit of the era.
    • 4. Everybody Hurts by R.E.M.
A talented act proved they had staying power despite shifting tastes in rock radio.
    • 3. Today by The Smashing Pumpkins
The Pumpkins rode grunge to the top and subsequently buried it with their later epic 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness'. Today was the track that showed modern rock wasn't all about crunch.
    • 2. Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
I personally don't care for them, but you can't deny this song's influence.
    • 1. Jeremy by Pearl Jam
The song and the band that turned music on its ear in the early 90s and gave birth to a genre.

The songs I did choose spread out over the whoe decade!! Unlike other people who's main focus was the early 90's!!:) I know that songs 1 and 10 are compleatly different and I don't care!!
