    By: Lee
    • 10. Brick by Ben Folds Five
Good story, good sound. Good everything. I wouldn't expect Ben Folds to do anything close to this good after that "you don't know what it's like being male middle class and white" stuff.
    • 9. Disarm by Smashing Pumpkins
One of the central american rock bands along with STP, Nirvana and the Chili Peppers that defined why the nineties were the best music era. This song is simply the best of the many great songs released by these guys.
    • 8. Crash Into Me by Dave Matthews Band
I really am not a Dave Matthews fan, but when I hear this great a song, I have to give him his props. Aside: All of Dave Matthews' "real" fans are blatent liars when they say: "Crash Into Me is his worst song"
    • 7. Heaven's Coming Down by The Tea Party
These guys may be some of the most talented musicians in popular music which can often lead to the audience being unable to relate to their complicated sounds. This song bridges that gap gracefully.
    • 6. Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead
Good melody, smart lyrics and a depth of emotion rarely ever found in any mainstream music. A gem of an album in a cluttered, generic music scene.
    • 5. Superman's Dead by Our Lady Peace
I met these guys which might have boosted their rating by one or two notches but there is no doubt that this song stuck a chord with tons of fans. Clumsy, the album from which this single was released may not be the best album if you look at it song by song. However, I'd put the top 5 songs from this album against any other albums top 5 confident that it would easily win. (I apologize for the ambiguity of this statement)
    • 4. Wonderwall by Oasis
So lots of people got turned off of these guys when they claimed they're better than the Beatles, who cares. This song is easily one of the best cover songs ever (Mike Flowers originally), from one of the most solid albums of the nineties. They're jerks, jerks with lots of talent.
    • 3. Red by Treble Charger
Most Canadians who know Treble Charger only know the post-American Psycho songs. Trust me, this song is 100 times better. If you're an american whose never heard of these guys, make a point to hear this tune.
    • 2. Shimmer by Fuel
My favorite band in the world. Very solid album. Simple, but emotional song by this NASHVILLE rock band. Honorable mention goes to their song Hemmhorage(in my hands)
    • 1. The Freshman by The Verve Pipe
Some songs just have that ability to make you remember all the good and bad times you've been through, this song never fails at that. Hint: Buy the single, these guys may be the biggest one hit wonders of the decade.

I am a firm believer that most people's favorite songs will be mellow for these are the songs that allow us to think and feel the most. I say this as a warning for those who may think the music I enjoy is boring. I ommitted a couple songs/bands that some may think deserve recognition but didn't make my list of FAVORITE songs. A few more songs/musicians deserve honorable mention: 1. Matthew Good Band: All their albums are solid, the best being Beautiful Midnight where all the GREAT singles are the WORST songs on the album 2. Foolish Games by Jewel: I kept it off the list for fear of being ridiculed but now I realize that's foolish on my part 3. Killing Me Killing You and others by Sentenced: It's Finish power metal you haven't heard of but I love it 4. Lucky ones by Bif Naked: Again a song released before one makes it big time, it would have made the list if I thought people knew it.
